Registry/Resources

I’ve organized this page by category like a baby registry on Diapers.com. Big fan of the company. They have a Green Baby section that is not a panacea but a decent filter for products and the free shipping/free returns is a huge help. The customer service is fantastic – I get a person on the first ring or two every time and they’re so friendly, I almost like calling them.

Nursery

For a nontoxic mattress with no Vinyl/ PVC, phthalates, lead, or antimicrobial biocides, I like the Naturepedic No-Compromise Organic Cotton Classic 252 Crib Mattress.

If you can’t/won’t switch to a nontoxic organic mattress, at least buy a crib protector pad that minimizes the off-gasing from your toxic crib mattress). This one from Serendipity is made with specially-formulated plastic (a pure polymer with no additives) to prevent the off-gassing of toxic gasses from the crib mattress, which has been linked to the origin of SIDS, Autism, Asthma and allergies.
Breathable Baby Bumper. Mixed feelings about this – it is polyester, which is the devil. However, if your baby dies of SIDS or gets entangled in a fluffy crib bumper, you’ve got bigger problems. I couldn’t find an organic version so I washed this in organic soap and let it air out – hopefully getting rid of a lot of gases and some of the finishers on it.

Tiny Love Classical Development Mobile - Tiny Love confirmed to me in writing that all of their products, including this popular mobile, are free from BPA, PVC and phthalates and meet all current regulations set forth by the CPSC, US and EU governments.

Gear/Activity

Tiny Love Gymini Bouncer

Since Tiny Love confirmed that all of their products are free from BPA, PVC and other phthalates, this is the only bouncer seat that also includes a vibrating feature that I’ve been able to find. It’s also colorful, unlike the organic Bjorn stuff, which apparently babies don’t like as much.

Tummy Time Mat – this frog mat is a favorite with my friends and the Tiny Love brand gives one some comfort though the materials are not organic so be careful of what they teeth on and try to air out anything well right out of the box.

For an organic mat (that admittedly doesn’t look as interesting and is 4x as expensive), check out this one from Giggle:

Clothing

My absolute favorite baby clothes come from Jacadi and they do make select organic onesies, rompers, footies and accoutrement.

We love this organic romper and matching cardigan, both are reversible.

One your little one starts rolling over, you’ll have to stop swaddling and start using a sleep sack. Try this organic one from Jacadi:

Feeding

Glass is the healthiest bottle choice and I love these Life Factory ones, completely free of known toxins including BPA, phthalates, polycarbonates, and PVC. The make adult beverage containers as well that one can apparently drop repeatedly without damage thanks to the covers.

I am also a big new fan of Dr. Brown’s Natural Flow Glass Bottles. They eliminate all bubbles (and therefore reduce gas) and I would imagine help with colic. Note that you must hand wash the parts though.

Life Factory makes BPA, phthalate, PVC and latex free teethers as well.

Other nontoxic teething options include the ubiquitous Sophie the Giraffe made with natural rubber and nontoxic food paint.

Dandelion is also a great company with several nontoxic, organic teething and soft toy options. They also make a teething blanket that can double as a lovely, if you’re going that route.

If you’re looking for keys, try Green Sprouts Teether Keys, which are organic and BPA, PVC and phthalate free.

My friend Charlotte shared these awesome stainless steel keys by Kleynimals, sure to be more like mom and dad’s keys and in nontoxic stainless steel.

Bath & Skincare

These Aiden + Anais hooded towel & wash cloth sets are darling and made from 100% cotton muslin.

Green Toys is a great company that makes toys from recycled milk jugs in California, which is the one state that’s gone above and beyond weak federal regulation in terms of toxins in baby products.  This Tugboat is my husband’s favorite item and the only thing he registered for himself. It contains bo BPA, PVC, phthalates or external coatings. The packaging uses only recycled and recyclable materials and printed with soy inks.

Mustela now makes these fantastic paraben and phthalate-free baby products that you’ll want to use yourself. I love this Bathtime Essentials gift set – a posh registry item. Pregnant moms can use this too knowing it’s safer for baby. Full disclosure, these still contain fragrance so if you’re going all the way, try Dr. Bronner’s Baby Mild – we use it as soap, shampoo and dish soap. A five year old could read all ingredients, it’s worry-free cleaning.

Toys & Books

The Wooden Wagon has tons of great, nontoxic options. I loved this Trix star grasping toy finished in nontoxic colors.

Green Start Little Vehicle Books – 98% post-consumer recycled materials and soy-based ink for safe chewing.

Diapering

I love Badger Baby Balm myself so hopefully the little one will too. You can check out their great suncare line as well.
